Greetings from SPHQ! This week the Air Quality Index here in the Pacific Northwest has been off the charts...in an unusually bad sort of way. So we're over here gratefully safe yet surrounded by smoke and thinking of Hawaii's blue skies, our annual UHTR meet up AND dreaming of ways to bring good vibes to our SP Community!

We don't need to be in Kauai to bring Aloha Vibes to the SP community year round.

The ALOHA VIBES tanks are available now for PRE-ORDER in two different tank styles. We've got the women's boxy crop and the unisex jersey style tank! It's all about giving you options for your Aloha Fridays. 

  • A portion of all shirt proceeds will be donated to the Keala Foundation, so even if you don't register to participate in the virtual UHTR, you can still share the love and Aloha spirit through your pre-order purchase.

  • You will NOT have your Aloha Vibes shirt for event day, but there are 364 other days of the year that you CAN represent your SP Ohana! 

  • If you want to order any other item from the SP SHOP, we encourage you to place two separate orders, so as to not have to wait for your non-Pre Order items.

  • Please allow AT LEAST 4-6 weeks for order fulfillment. As you know, we have experienced some delays in manufacturing and shipping beyond SP's control. We'll keep you posted of any unexpected delays.

For the last couple of years, these words have hung on the wall at SPHQ, and in a year where much has felt out of our control, the words have become that much more meaningful.

In so many ways, our community has been an inspiration to us through this year of so much change, newness, adapting and so on. We see you out there taking control how you can... in the early mornings, in your living rooms, hospital rooms, in the kitchen with your toddlers crawling around you, or your unexpected home-school life kids joining you in the garage. We see you figuring out how to adapt when you were used to a fully stocked gym. We see you showing up for More Than Nothing days when stress or work drains your energy. And we see you cheering each other on even when our virtual community can't give as many hugs and high fives in person.

WHAT CONTROL YOUR FITNESS MEANS...

Technically none of these people can win the giveaways, but here's what some of your coaches had to say about what CONTROL YOUR FITNESS means to them personally...

For me the idea of "Control Your Fitness" came long before I regularly worked out at home.  In fact - the whole idea of the Street Parking program came after 8 years of almost weekly travel, airports, time zones, and eating out of restaurants. As someone who, in that situation, valued my health and fitness - I had to learn early on how to "make it work" and take care of myself under any circumstances.  My travel schedule and several serious injuries, along with being in the fitness industry for 2 decades and seeing THOUSANDS of people trying to make change has made it clear to me that there will always be ebbs and flows. We will have highs and lows when it comes to motivation, available time, physical limitations, health related issues, energy levels, available equipment, resources, or even training partners. All we can control is that we keep moving.

Consistency is the MASSIVE missing link that everyone is searching for in maintaining fitness, body composition, and health over the course of our lives (as much as we can anyway). And what we need to be doing is so much more simple than we have all been lead to believe. With simple workouts that can be done anywhere (even when pregnant or even injured), and simple nutrition habits that can be attained in almost any situation (trust me - I've been on every continent in the world and way too many small towns in the US) - we CAN be in control of our fitness. We CAN control our health in many ways. And we CAN live a normal - actually a better and EASIER life by doing so. - Miranda Alcaraz (@fearlessmiranda)

So many things have changed dramatically personally, professionally and obviously globally in the last year and honestly, my body is feeling it. No matter what is going on, I can control my fitness. If my knee is not feeling right, I can do deadlifts instead of squats. If I am stressed or got no sleep, I can do a rigorous maintenance session. I can choose what foods I eat and liquids I drink. I can choose what I read. I can choose how I respond to life. In a time when there is so much uncertainty, I’m grateful for the reminder to focus on what I CAN control rather than what I can’t. There are so many variables about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenthood that you just can't predict. I was lucky enough to have a fairly uncomplicated and relatively comfortable pregnancy.  For the most part, I was happy to move and workout and really enjoyed diving into connecting with my body and finding modifications that were appropriate for me. Then I was ROCKED with an intense labor and delivery that resulted in a birth injury, postpartum hemorrhage, and what would be the start of a lot of struggles both physically and emotionally. I never could have predicted or prevented the factors that contributed to the challenges I faced in those early weeks and months after my daughter's birth.

My definition of "fitness" had to change. It no longer looked like barbell snatches and pull ups. Instead it was breathing exercises, pelvic floor stamina, walking without pain, and relieving neck and shoulder tension from many hours of learning to feed my baby. "Control Your Fitness" doesn't have to equate long hours, complicated movements, or pushing past your current threshold.

It can also mean that while sometimes life will throw you a curveball and change your perspective of what it means to be "fit," there is always an opportunity and with Street Parking there are always the tools and resources, to find a connection to your body and nurture your current wellness needs. - Mamas Coach Carolina Stone (@care_o_leena)

In a time when it seems like we have no control, the truth is that we have more control than we realize. We have control over our physical activity and we have control over what we eat. This alone can be life changing. Our lives and health are not dependent on events around us, our lives and health are dependent on our personal choices. I interact with many people daily that don’t understand this concept and they are controlled by outside factors, whether intentionally or by default, they are left to deal with the consequences of their choices. On the other hand, those that do understand and step up, take control of their lives and dictate their direction. We control our movement. We control what we eat.   • APPAREL: As you may know, there have been significant backorders on some items because of manufacturing issues related to the pandemic. Kaitlin and Christian (AKA our apparel 'department') are getting everything (75/365/Do Something/Team Tanks) out as quickly as it comes in. And yes, we are cautiously prepping for re-releasing some favorites from last year as well as an updated Winter Essentials collection with some new goodies for 2020.
