SP WEEKLY: What to do (and eat) this weekend!

August at Street Parking is always a memorable month full of shenanigans, benchmark workouts and of course, some birthday (workouts) to celebrate too!

Whether this was your first week with Street Parking or you're celebrating 365 workouts, at the very least make sure you get those Vault "CINCO" scores logged in Wodify before 5pm PST Saturday, August 8th so you can stay on track for earning your shirt! Or of course comparing your PRs from February so you can enter the PR giveaways!

Since it's the weekend, we think it's also a great time for...

OVERCOMING #TEAMFOMO

You've undoubtedly seen it happening: doves and roosters (and all the related hashtags) have been taking over social media feeds all week. So maybe you're not one of the 8000+ Street Parking Members participating in the third annual Julian vs. Miranda challenge, and you're wondering what is happening and why. (Honestly, we wonder this sometimes still too.)

Here's the rundown AND a few fun ways you can be involved even if you're not an official Gallo or Paloma:

The 4-week Julian vs Miranda Challenge kicked off August 3rd, which means if you didn't register or join us this year, circle August 2021 on your calendar and now you officially have something to look forward to! If you're curious about what's going on, you can still read all about the Challenge and watch videos from our fearless leaders over here on the Julian vs Miranda Challenge page

If you didn't register but you like the idea of a community challenge or improving some healthy routines, here are the main daily/weekly habits the challenge is focusing on:

  • CONSISTENCY: team members are using this challenge as a way to get back on or stay on track with their consistency of hitting daily workouts (Programs A/B/C, SHIFT, Accessories, etc.)

  • EAT YOUR VEGGIES: this isn't a nutrition challenge, but this IS a great habit to work on anytime of year. Team members are making sure to add at least one handful of veggies to one meal a day right now, with the goal by the end of the challenge of making this a two a day habit!

  • DRINK YOUR WATER: thank goodness the toilet paper shortage of 2020 has leveled out a bit because this is the week that hundreds of people increased their water intake! It's pretty simple but this habit is all about trading sugary drink habits for the simple goodness of drinking water. The goal is to hit half your bodyweight in ounces every day, with an 80 oz. limit for women and 100 oz. limit for men.

  • NO BOOZE: yep. Pretty simple yet often profound for many members who find the benefits of better sleep, better recovery, better/lasting stress coping mechanisms, better moods and feeling better during workouts to be more rewarding than anything else.

  • MAINTENANCE: members are encouraged to add in 1-2 Street Parking Maintenance sessions in because let's be real... why wouldn't you want to take advantage of these incredibly helpful, restorative, refreshing yoga/mobility flows? As much as you are going to hear that consistency and intensity are key, you can’t go HARD every day and your body NEEDS recovery to be able to stay consistent and healthy!

MAINTENANCE & MORE MAINTENANCE

Between the Knox birthday workout, CINCO, Miranda's 'Jackie' and Julian's gem of a workout with all those snatches and lunges, this is a GREAT week to dig into the Maintenance video library

A few of the staff favorites include Morning CoffeeHips 2.0Shoulder Stretch and Decompression Sequence. And all of our SP Mamas, don't forget the Mamas Maintenance on Members Only with Prenatal and Postpartum sequences!

WANT TO HAVE THE BEST DAY EVER? Join Jeb and Carolina over on the Facebook members page or @streetparkingmembers Instagram for LIVE MAINTENANCE this SUNDAY at 9:30am PST!

GET TO KNOW MORE MEMBERS

We may not be having as many big meet ups this year, but you can still find ways to connect with local members in your area over on the SP MEET UPS page. And while you're there, get to know more of the SP Members on the Member Highlights page!

This week's Member Feature Friday is none other than Robert Piparo, or Pip as many of us fondly know him. Pip is a Lieutenant with the City of New Brunswick Fire Department, husband, father of the #minipips Finn and Dex and Director of the Not For Profit 555 Fitness.

Why do you work out?:
Pip: "My career as a firefighter is both physically and mentally demanding. Being 5'2" and 135lbs, I'm not exactly Hollywood’s idea of what a firefighter should look like. When I was taking tests to get hired, I realized that I was going to need to be fit enough to possibly save someone 2 or 3 times my size. That lit a flame (no pun intended) inside of me to start placing my own personal fitness on a higher level..."

THE RECIPE OF THE WEEK

If this doesn't inspire you to get your veggies in this weekend, we don't know what will. The easy and refreshing Blueberry Mandarin Salad can even be turned into a full meal if you top it with your favorite grilled chicken and some roasted sweet potatoes on the side. (Yes, you now know my weekend dinner plans...)

Check it out here along with hundreds of our favorite SP Nutrition RECIPES...
